Canon History: Erika’s world is, in many ways, very similar to our own; for the most part, Earth’s history has gone much as it has here. Most notable differences have been the result of the existence and use of magic. In Magitroika, Earth is merely one of four ‘planes’ of reality, which form a rough triangle: Earth in the center, acting as the axis, with the realms of angels, demons, and fae (known as Heaven, Hell, and the Wilds or “The Other Place”) at the three points. While some believe angels and demons in particular to be divine beings, they have never been proven to be connected to any particular religion; their names are more a matter of resemblance to human ideas of what "angels" and "demons" might look like than anything. While the workings of magic itself are rather complex, most humans’ knowledge of it can be boiled down to basic rituals learned in school, and the existence of four ‘colors’ of magic, each connected to one of the planes.
For a long time, not even that much was commonly known. As humans can only use magic ritually - unlike most extraplanar beings, and Earth’s dragons and elementals, which have their own intrinsic magic abilities - it was all too easy for knowledge of those rituals to be lost as humans spread across the Earth, and as the vampires, immortal beings originating from one of the earliest necromantic rituals developed on Earth, intentionally buried its existence. However, around the time of the industrial revolution, the vampires realized that the ever-growing rate at which information could be spread would soon make hiding magic impossible. As such, they decided to control the reintroduction of magic into human society.
As people became more aware of the realities of magic, certain beings found that they could finally be more open about their natures - though doing so was not always safe. In the modern day, intelligent undead have only gained legal rights in the past forty years or so, while the struggle for social acceptance of many magical beings - including werewolves - continues alongside the fight against more mundane bigotry.
Speaking of which, there's the matter of lycanthropy itself. Werewolves in Erika's world are the eventual result of an ancient curse initially meant to turn foes into wolves, physically and mentally. However, years of alteration and "editing" of the curse and its effects resulted in a tangled mess of viral, unstable transformative magic which alters its host's very genetics - rendering it both hereditary and effectively incurable.
Though those with knowledge of the curse died and dispersed, leaving stories of lycanthropy to be seen as nothing more than folk tales, the re-emergence of magic led to the realization of the reality of werewolves. To this day, they are looked down on by much of society, seen as impulsive and risky to be around at best, and considered to be dangerous monsters at worst. Of course, many werewolves work to disprove this reputation - but there are always those who find trying to fight it to be more trouble than it's worth.
Character History:
Erika comes from a family far from unfamiliar with lycanthropy and how to handle it; in fact, her grandmother on her mother’s side was a werewolf, and, while her mother didn’t inherit the condition, Erika herself - as well as her cousin Grant - did. While, as a young child, this mostly manifested in the form of monthly transformations into a puppy with thumbs, the mood problems common among werewolves became more and more evident as she entered adolescence. However, as lycanthropy-induced mood swings were something her family was basically prepared to deal with, Erika’s ever more evident behavioral issues had more to do with her as an individual than anything.
Partway through high school, after over a year of managing to maintain a fairly moderate level of popularity and generally keeping out of trouble, Erika became tired of what felt to her like invisibility. At first, she tried to rectify this by improving her reputation among her peers, but she could never seem to get very far that way, limited to begin with by her status as a suspected werewolf from a lower-class family. Eventually, her frustration led her to start lashing out at her classmates. As it turned out, that was a much quicker (and cheaper) way to gain a reputation beyond "that one girl who might be a werewolf". It didn't much matter to her what that reputation was, honestly - she was finally controlling how they saw her, and that was enough for her.
Even after finishing school, Erika remained pretty solidly in the habit of solving her problems with violence and intimidation - even to the point of making that her actual job, working as hired muscle in contexts both legal and less so. Her ruthlessness and flair for the dramatic proved to be significant advantages in threatening her employers' enemies, as official security personnel or otherwise, especially when paired with her lycanthropic strength.
After a few years of moving around for work, with minimal contact with her family, she recently came to settle in a particular city far south of her hometown, initially moving down to testify at the trial of one of her former employers who had gotten sloppy in his criminal dealings. It was by sheer chance that, while waiting in the courthouse lobby one day, she ended up chatting with a young child named Chip, whose guardian was appealing for the right to adopt them. As it turned out, that guardian was Erika's own cousin, Grant. They ended up arranging to talk more later, and, as Erika caught up with her cousin, she also became increasingly attached to his adopted child.
In the end, Erika ended up finding more work in the city and settling in to stay indefinitely. While getting to know the area (read: trying to pick up girls in bars) she met Sophie, a vampire who she later found out to be, for one thing, a friend of Grant's, and for another, a professional assassin. Both these factors made it all the more convenient for them to keep seeing each other regularly, and, despite Sophie being a wealthy vampire and therefore theoretically exactly someone who Erika wouldn't be able to stand, she found herself becoming increasingly fond of her.
All in all, Erika has found herself getting really attached to a few people lately for the first time in a while, and it's kinda freaking her out.
Personality:
Depending on who you ask, Erika's moral code could be described as anywhere from tenuous to entirely nonexistent. She's capable of justifying almost anything to herself, whether in the name of a shaky idea of it being deserved or appropriate, or simple self-interest. It doesn't help that she, frankly, doesn't consider herself to be a good person to begin with, and sees trying to change as something that would probably be more trouble than it was worth, if it's even possible.
As doubtful as she may be of her ability to change herself, Erika is absolutely interested in controlling others' perceptions of her, whether through behavior or careful grooming of her appearance, though being perceived and acknowledged to begin with is usually more important to her than any specific opinion someone might have. Being irrelevant is pretty much the worst thing Erika can imagine - and she's willing to do quite a lot to avoid that.
In everyday interactions, Erika is, at best, generally friendly, if a bit rude. She doesn't usually bother to filter what opinions she expresses, which she would probably describe as "brutal honesty". In practice it's usually just kind of obnoxious. She doesn't actually go into most conversations intending to insult the people she's talking to, but she also can't really be bothered to make an effort to avoid it. On top of that, it's pretty rare for her to make any effort to de-escalate a confrontation once it starts, instead just accepting that This Is What We're Doing Now.
It doesn't help that Erika is also very confident in her combat skills to the point of potentially overestimating herself. She doesn't think she's totally infallible, of course, but she's pretty sure that she could take on most people, and is pretty open about this opinion, sometimes to the point of blatantly hyperbolic self-aggrandizement (though there does come a point where she doesn't actually expect people to believe her, she just likes hyperbole). In fact, Erika is confident in a lot about herself: Her skills, her appearance, her judgement - though she maybe shouldn't be about that last one.
Speaking of liking hyperbole, Erika is... just very dramatic in general. She likes wordplay, she likes grand gestures of power or affection or hatred or whatever she wants people to be aware of at the moment, she likes... well, making herself hard to ignore. This doesn't just apply to herself, either; her enthusiasm about other people, whether positive or negative, can easily be just as overwrought.
However, as dramatic as her reactions might seem at times, Erika is actually very difficult to insult. Most of the time, she actually thinks it's pretty funny when people try to insult her; she thinks she's pretty great, and honestly considers trying to upset her to be a pretty gutsy thing to do.
Once Erika becomes personally invested in someone, her behavior will eventually shift a little. She's still rude and overdramatic, of course, because that's... just kind of who she is. But if someone wins her over it's a lot more likely that she'll actually try to get along with them. In addition, Erika is very invested in the safety of those who she cares about, seeing as how there aren't that many of them to begin with, and will readily offer (or just carry out without asking) retaliatory violence if they do come to harm.
Frankly, she sees her combat abilities as one of the main reasons people associate with her to begin with (alongside, you know, assorted familial ties and also being Super Hot), which she considers fully understandable. As such, it would be rather negligent for her not to do what she does best, right?
Abilities:
Werewolf Nonsense
Erika’s senses of smell and hearing are significantly stronger than a human’s (which, on the other hand, means she’s more sensitive to strong scents and loud noises that might be less than pleasant). She’s also physically stronger than most humans, as well as being able to withstand more physical injury and healing faster (not instantaneously, though; think more like 1.5-2 times the speed humans heal at). On the other hand, silver has a corrosive effect on her body, which will spread outward from the point of contact the longer said contact is maintained.
If Erika’s body fluids - saliva, blood, whatever - get into a human’s bloodstream, that human will most likely become infected with lycanthropy, and will start experiencing slight physical changes within the next few days (unless it happens right before a full moon, in which case, oh boy good luck with that). Some humans may be immune, whether because they carry an asymptomatic form of the curse or because of another form of magical protection. (I’m gonna be honest, this should probably be nerfed; Erika isn’t exactly in the habit of biting people but it’s the kind of thing that just seems like it would be complicated to even have as a possibility.)
Werewolf Nonsense Part 2, Full Moon Edition
Moon phases bring a whole other set of complications; though she undergoes a few slight changes depending on the phase of the moon (consisting mostly of things like being a little more impulsive and having slightly sharper teeth as the full moon approaches), the most dramatic shift occurs over the course of a minute or so, right as the moon rises. This change is entirely involuntary, and she doesn’t need to be exposed to the moonlight for it to take effect.
On full moons, Erika takes the form of a roughly eight foot tall, bulky, vaguely humanoid/vaguely canid/superficially hyena-looking creature. In this form, some of her cognitive abilities, particularly relating to critical reasoning and not just going for it every time she experiences an impulsive thought, are diminished. She can still think and understand speech (though it takes a little more effort to focus on what people are saying), but cannot speak, thanks to the reshaping of her mouth and vocal chords.
Erika Nonsense
Erika has been making a habit of physically fighting people since she was fifteen, and making a career of it since not long after that. As such, she’s pretty experienced with combat. She also has a good bit of knowledge of weaponry, particularly melee and nonlethal weapons. On a somewhat different track, she also has some experience with sewing and cosmetology.
Inventory:
- clothes obviously, also piercings and a hairtie if those need to be listed
- smartphone
- assorted weapons; one switchblade, one pair of brass knuckles, 9mm handgun containing six rounds

Q&A:
Do you care about others, or would you rather let them fend for themselves?
Depends. I mean, ideally, people should be able to handle their own shit, y’know? But sometimes they can’t, if they’re... kids, or huge loser softies or stuff like that.
I guess, the thing is – if you want help you gotta earn it, one way or another. Even if that way is being a tiny little twig child who can’t even lift their own weight.
What kind of impression do you think you give to others?
Honestly? Pretty sure most of ‘em are fuckin’ terrified of me. Which, y’know, great? They should be, I could kick all their asses if I wanted to.
What kind of person do you hate?
God, okay, so—you ever met someone who just... they take themselves so damn seriously, and they act like everyone else is supposed to, but they won’t... Shit. They won’t give you a reason. They think everyone’s gotta bow down to them because they’re old or rich or a teacher or whatever, but that’s... it’s all posturing bullshit. Give me a reason to give a fuck, already.
Who is the most important person (or persons) in your life, and why?
Shit, uh... I dunno. Does it count when someone isn’t in your life, strictly speaking? Or... used to be, but they aren’t now.
...Saying it’s my dad would be... traditional for this or something, right? I’m gonna go with that.
If you could do only one job for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I mean. The one I do now is pretty sweet, just sayin’. Being a makeup artist would also be cool, I guess, but I think I missed the bus on that one.
Do you consider yourself to be special in any way? If so, how?
If this is a... magical destiny thing, I guess not? But otherwise – I mean, shit, I must’ve been born with some kind of... potential, or whatever you want to call it. I’ve worked as a goddamn assassin, I can beat the shit out of anyone and get paid for it, and I’m a solid nine if not a ten on top of that.
...Yeah, alright, that’s probably a yes.
Do you think things like art, music, and literature are important? Why or why not?
Man, absolutely. Art’s how people have been telling their stories, passing on thoughts and ideas and shit for... I mean, as long as it’s been around. Everything someone makes says something about them, it’s cool as hell.
